Day 7: Santorini

My seventh day in Greece was spent on the island of Santorini!

My last destination! Santorini, a beautiful island, once destroyed by a volcano eruption centuries ago.

Visiting Santorini now, I took a trail through the spine of the Island; walking past unique white houses and buildings which many contain the same blue colored roof.

The hike along with the rugged physical geography allows you to have a nice workout.

This island contains the most magnificent views overlooking the Aegean sea perhaps in all of Greece.

Day 6: Mykonos Island

The sixth day in Greece, I spent on Mykonos Island.

During our day in Mykonos, we spent most of the time on the beach. My mom wanted to see the shops and explore the different touristy things to do. Basically, we went from shop to shop and then when we got tired we went to restaurant to restaurant and ate until we couldn’t eat anymore.

There will be a lot of enjoyable food, in the town’s waterfront Paris Quarter. The best food I ate on the whole trip was eaten while we were at Mykonos island! It was so delicious and the vibe of the island was very fun and energetic.

Mykonos has a lively nightlife that is sure to be a great time, especially because of its partyhard reputation. I wasn’t expecting there to be so much partying on this island, but that’s because I didn’t know what I was in for when we decided to come here (not really, anyway).

Day 5: Athens (Day 2)!

The second day in Athens is when we saw the Parthenon.

The Parthenon is the famous site on the Acropolis. Since we checked out the Acropolis yesterday, we got to take more time today and look at the actual Parthenon as well.

The Parthenon is one of the most famous sites in Greece.

Parthenon: [Religious] My stop at the parthenon can relate in a religious aspect because it is a former temple that was built in honor of Goddess Athena.

Athena

The people of Athens considered Athena to be the patron goddess of their great city, which is why the temple is so important to the religion of the ancient Greeks.

Day 4: Athens, Greece

My fourth day in Greece is spent in Athens in the Acropolis.

Since Athens is such a huge city and main attraction I decided to stay here for two days to truly be able to take as much as I can from my trip.

The first day in Athens, I spent at the Acropolis and some of the smaller sites surrounding it. We didn’t look too closely at a lot of the ruins, but did see the Amphitheater and the city as well.

My stop at the Acropolis in Athens portrays historical importance because throughout Ancient Greek history it was always an important landmark.

The Acropolis is one of many ancient fortresses in Greece. The Acropolis of Athens is located on top of a high rocky hill overlooking the city of Athens.

Day 3: Mycenae!

My third day in Greece took me to Mycenae.

The Lion Gate is the main attraction here in Mycenae.

There’s a whole circle of royal tombs and a palace in Mycenae. The size of the ruins is very impressive, it’s hard to tell from the pictures but they’re HUGE.

This site shows the history of Greece, and its that rich history which has made it a great place for tourists like me to travel to. I really liked seeing the gravel circle, the Lion’s Gate and the Tomb of Agamemnon. So much great archaeological sites in one country, I can’t wait for the next day of my Greek adventure.

Economically it is a place that is popular for tourists, especially because it also contains the Tomb of Agamemnon, which I plan to visit as part of my tour of this city.

Day 2: Olympia, Greece

My second day in Greece, I traveled to Olympia!

In Olympia I decided to visit the Ancient Olympia Museum. Its a famous museum, founded in 1982 that houses some of the most famous artifacts from ancient times.

I was especially excited to see it because it houses the first training grounds for athletes.

This ancient site displays the training grounds and athletic facilities of the original olympic games that took place here in 8th century B.C. The games were dedicated to the Gods (Zeus and Hera). Seeing the ancient stadium was really cool. It’s amazing that this stood the test of time since Pelopponsian times. And all of this was outside the museum!

Just one of many statues inside the museum

Once we went inside the museum, there were even more cool things to see. I took some pictures and I’m posting them below. The Greek vases were really cool, its hard to see just from a picture but its amazing to think they have stood against time this long.

Economically, the museum does very well for the city of Olympia, which is in Western Greece. It attracts a lot of tourists because of its presence of archaeological artifacts (first stadium and sight of the Olympics).

Day 1: My Visit to Delphi

It’s my first day in Greece!

I’m so excited to be here in Greece. I’m in the city of Delphi.

In ancient Greece, Delphi was a religious site. It was the famous site of The Oracle. People would travel to the Oracle to get their fortunes told or to ask her a question and receive a response on what they should do. The ruins at Delphi today are the ruins of a temple built for the Oracle during ancient times. This stunning setting is surrounded by mountains and cliffs with beautiful views all around. Today, many tourists come to the ruins of the oracle. The view is stunning and although you have to take a bus to get there, the trip is worth it!

Most people take a tour with a group to see the ruins at Delphi. I decided to take the tour as well, especially because it seemed a lot easier that way to stay with my group. Delphi is about 2 hours Northwest of Athens. There’s a village in Delphi, which is where the tour starts.

The tour itself was really cool. The tour guide, Penny was very knowledgeable and she taught us a lot of historical facts and fascinating details.

The ruins were really awesome to see, and I got some great pictures. I can’t wait for my second day in Greece!
